Macao will ban the import of non-biodegradable disposable plastic knives, forks and spoons from 2023




The Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region of China has implemented a series of plastic reduction measures to protect the environmental quality of Macao. Macao will ban the import of non-biodegradable disposable plastic knives, forks and spoons from 2023.

 

Following the introduction of control measures on disposable styrofoam tableware, non-degradable disposable plastic catering straws and beverage stirring rods. The Government of Macao Special Administrative Region of China is in accordance with the provisions of Paragraph 1 (5) of Article 5 of Foreign Trade Law No. 7/2003 as amended by Law No. 3/2016. The import of non-biodegradable disposable plastic knives, forks and spoons is prohibited through the Chief Executive's Directive No. 175/2022, which will take effect from 1 January 2023. In order to clarify the scope of the control and the relevant operational requirements, the EPD will hold subsequent briefing sessions to further explain to the industry to ensure effective implementation of the control measures.
