On May 9, 2019 Russia (RT) reported on May 7, 2019 that a new Russian poll shows that many Russians have begun accepting the trend to reduce the use of plastic. As many as 30% of Russians use recyclable bags when shopping, instead of single-use plastic bags, and one in six Russians will never give up using single-use plastic bags.
Russian Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dmitry Kobelkin said, "We support the global trend of reducing the use of plastic," and, "We are preparing for restrictions, and it takes time to recognize and accept it."
"This initiative is reasonable because there is too much plastic waste on the planet," said the chairman of the Russian State Duma Environmental Committee. "As for plastic tableware, (I think) all developed countries should give up using it."
In fact, this is not the first time the Russian government has discussed measures to restrict the use of plastic products. In 2018, the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitri Anatolyevich Medvedev promised to ban the use of plastic tableware. In April 2019, a member of the Russian State Duma also proposed an initiative to ban the use of plastic bags, and emphasized that plastic bags have become a "key issue" of pollution. He said that by 2025, Russia may completely ban the use of plastic bags.
As people's awareness of environmental protection increases, some measures to restrict plastics will be continuously adopted and promoted. Before those measures are promoted, we can reduce the use or look for alternative products to replace the use of plastic and protect our environment. For example, paper bag and non woven cloth bags can be used instead of single-use plastic bags. Using degradable tableware, such as bagasse tableware ,CPLA cutlery and paper straw.
