Norway bans single-use plastics from July 3, 2021

On January 8, 2021, the Norwegian Ministry of Climate and Environment approved the publication of a regulation (FOR-2020-12-18-3200) banning oxidatively degradable plastic products and certain single-use plastic products. The regulations go into effect on July 3, 2021.

The following single-use plastic products (made in whole or in part from plastic) are prohibited from being placed on the market:

1. Cotton swabs (excluding those used as medical equipment);
2. Cutlery (forks, knives, spoons and chopsticks);
3. Plate;
4. Straws (excluding those used as medical equipment);
5. Beverage stirrer;
6. Balloon rods and their fasteners (excluding those used for industrial or commercial purposes and not distributed to consumers);
7. Food containers made of expanded polystyrene (EPS), with or without lids, for food intended to be eaten without further processing, whether intended for consumption on the spot or to take away;
8. Beverage containers made of expanded polystyrene (EPS), including stoppers and lids;
9. Drinking cups made of expanded polystyrene (EPS), including lids.

In addition, products made from oxidatively degradable plastics will be banned from the Norwegian market.

Norway’s Minister of Climate and Environment said, “We use too many unnecessary single-use plastics that end up in nature or on the streets. On the beaches of the Norwegian coast, a large amount of plastic waste is collected every year. The EU bans its use. Norway supports the ban on single-use plastics."

It is reported that Norway's ban is to support the EU's proposal to ban single-use plastic products in 2019 to alleviate the growing plastic problem. It should be noted that the ban does not apply to medical products.

We can use disposable tableware made from bagasse products. The disposable eco-friendly bagasse meal from Shenglin Packaging has bagasse trays, bagasse bowls, bagasse lunch boxes, bagasse cutlery and spoons to replace disposable plastic plates, plastic bowls, plastic lunch boxes and plastic cutlery spoons.

Some other plastic products we can also gradually use other degradable products to protect our environment and protect our earth.
